Simonson himself is firing on all cylinders art-wise here, and John Workman's bold lettering continues to stand out. Balder the Brave was one of the Asgardians, an extra-dimensional race of beings once worshiped by the Vikings and Germans, as well as half-brother and close friend to Thor. Marvel legend Sal Buscema provides the art and it's a welcome sight as always. The Balder the Brave mini-series is included here as it fits in with the Hel continuity. The final issue is a mediocre Beyonder tie-in, mandated by Editor in Chief Jim Shooter. Written by Walt Simonson with art by Sal Buscema. After learing of Thor's mission, Balder and Agnar preparer for their journey to Hel.
Karnilla trys to keep Balder from learning of Thor's message and Odin's death. And while it isnt proven, I think that he is able to move at the speed. Balder the Brave (1985) 1, 'The Sword of Frey'. He is on a higher league, he is the god of light. Thor himself receives a grievous injury, leaving the reader wondering if the Thunder God is perhaps scarred for life. He isnt comparable to Colossus as some seem to compare. The Mission to Hel is the collection's great highlight, and it features shining moments for Balder the Brave and the Executioner, both long-time members of Thor's supporting cast. Even an appearance by the Titanium Man, of all heavyweight villains, fails to register. Story-wise, the Loreli arc never really comes to life and the interplay between Sif and Beta Ray Bill in the B story is equally inert. Donning a disguise to blend into the mortal crowds, and avoid the all seeing glare of Heimdalls eyes, Balder made his way through the crowded streets of Manhattan in search of Jane Foster while the Warriors Three searched for the imposter Lady Thor. Issue 360 was clearly the best choice for this collection. Arriving in a flash of light, he and the Warriors Three went their separate ways. Thor is shown kneeling, obscured before Loki and Loreli, at his weakest point.
